Calling all Alum, Returning Cantala Choir Singers and Singing Hopefuls !

As we all come out of hibernation from our latest Canadian winter, as well as look beyond the horizon with more optimism about the pandemic becoming an endemic, Cantala Choir is planning its spring 2022 composers project. We have many pieces that unpublished composers have been waiting for us to learn and record and the opportunity is now upon us to continue this meaningful, good work.

Spring Project 2022 starts Monday May 9th, soon after our Spring Harmony concert with the Canadian Men’s concert on Saturday May 7th.

Rehearsal starts at 7pm in the sanctuary of Forest Hill United Church. @ Wembley road. This project will continue every Monday (except May 23rd) until Monday June 27th.

Russian Beauty: Spring Concert Program

The final concert of our 10th Season is quickly approaching and we are celebrating in many ways, including performing Rachmaninoff’s Six Choruses for Treble voices, op. 15; a special gem from the Women’s choral literature in May.

The Beginning of our 12th Season

The beginning of our 12th Season at Cantala has begun! If you haven’t auditioned yet for Cantala please do be in touch. We are always interested in meeting new and talented singers and musicians. Between a Fall weekend retreat to Haliburton to Banff in February and Roy Thompson Hall in May-it will be an exhilarating year in Cantala. Come and sing with us!

New Beginnings

Cantala Choir and I had our first in person rehearsal in two years in February 2022 and for so many reasons, it feels like a new beginning. For one, as I re enter the world of choral music and choral programming I feel I have many new ideas and perspectives. So consider this: what about changing “hundred of years-old sacred text” to a sacred text that is relevant to our human society today? Radical idea? Read on.

From the Indigenous peoples, to the settlers and now immigrants from every part of the globe, Canada is a place where there is such variety in our food, entertainment and social circles that one cannot but rejoice and celebrate Canada.
