Looking to Spring with Cantala!

Nancy Singla

Some of us in Canada are looking to Spring….and others of us are still looking for winter! Whatever your perspective is, by May 25th the sun and warmth should have come to Toronto . We are preparing for our recital at Roy Thomson Hall; an opportunity that we have had postponsed since May 2020. We couldn’t be any more excited.

Roy Thomson Hall

The concert at Roy Thomson Hall is Thursday May 25th at Noon. This is an organ concert series to highlight the gorgeous organ in RTH, and we are there to compliment it and let it shine. As such, our repertoire will include many organ peices including the famous and undoubtably popular Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Faure, the quintessential masterpiece Missa Brevis in D by Benjamin Britten and an unlikely haunting melody by Errollyn Wallen called Peace on Earth.

David Simon, Organist.

Our organist is David Simon, an prominent organ recitalist, improviser, instructor, and liturgical musician. He won First Prize and Audience Prize in the University of Michigan organ improvisation competition in 2018. David has gone on to improvise extensively in concert, liturgy, and for silent films. David has performed in North America, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, and Russia to the acclaim of audience members, reviewers, and his colleagues. He won First Prize at the Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) national organ competition held in Halifax in 2019 and now serves as a member of the RCCO Competitions Committee. David is a doctoral candidate at Yale University in the studios of Thomas Murray and Jeff Brillhart. He is a Fellow of the RCCO, winning prizes for top national achievement. David will also be playing solo organ pieces as part of this concert.
